Course Reflective Narratives
Language proficiency is such an important tool for people majoring in Spanish due to the fact that in SPAN 301, students learn and master communication skills after the course. Students should be able to communicate in modes such as professional, in this course I learned and mastered my speech, presenting, and communicating skills. In addition, this course helped me to gain confidence when presenting in front of a group of people. To add, I learned to deliver a strong and clear presentation due to the great way this course made me organize my ideas. We had the opportunity to choose a topic and do a 20-30 minute presentation and the topic that really caught my attention was the Muxes society. This is located in the state of Oaxaca, this helped me to understand their unique culture and in the same way, support them because they were being discriminated against for their gender and I thought this was wrong besides it's an important matter due to the issues that the LGBTQ community is still facing. Although in this community, they were born as men, they chose to have the role of a woman. They are doing this because they want to and not because they are against other women. The Muxes have their cultural event where they dress in long flowery skirts with large gold jewelry. The reason this topic caught my attention is that even though we are in a new generation, we could still see discrimination against this community.
