Course Reflective Narratives
In the fall of 2022, I had to take SPAN 304, Intro to Hispanic Literature. In this class, I was taught how to analyze and have different perspectives on the different poems that we analyze in class. Throughout this course, we worked on developing different strategies to identify the structure of the poems, for example, the tone, metaphors, and all the literary devices that a poem must have. For this class, I was given the task to choose a poem and then make a little presentation on it. In this presentation, I exposed the structure of the poem and my interpretation. I really enjoyed doing this project. I developed the skills of analyzing and seeing the poem from a very different perspective and have a different point of view that I shared with my classmates during the presentation. Also, doing these little presentations was very helpful in the way that they were getting me ready for future presentations, for example, I don't feel nervous anymore. In addition, this course really has helped me a lot to have more knowledge of Hispanic literature. Nevertheless, after this course, I feel a lot more familiar with rhetorical devices that will help me in future courses. I had never been taught that these rhetorical devices are always present on a daily basis and how important they are to even make sense of a simple text. Lastly, I have to recognize and give credit to this class because I am confident that without the help given by my professor and the important tools he provided me with would fail at examining and analyzing reading in any of my other classes. This course not only focuses on analyzing and examining the reading but also focuses on teaching students how to find out the meaning and the messages they have and the way the author read them the way he did.
