This 2023 spring semester I am taking SPAN 362, Latin American Literature and Translation. The main focus of this course is to be able to analyze, Describe and compare and contrast the literary genres studied throughout the course, including short stories, poetry, and essays. And translate them into our own perspective. In addition, we have to identify and describe literary texts from Latin America and have a broad overview of its historic development from the colonial era up through the 20th century. Also, we are able to explore the different ideas each of us (students) has about the stories and how each of us could have different points of view and interpretations of the assigned stories. Nevertheless, for this course, it is required to develop a great Identification and application of terminology regarding rhetorical devices as seen in literature from Latin America. I was able to learn the analysis through different forms of content of literature text in oral and written discourses. To add, students are also required to have a certain knowledge of technology. In SPAN 362 I have to do a presentation about the short story “The youngest Doll” by Rosario Ferre. In this story the main idea is how women were portrayed as objects and had no rights. For this specific presentation, we are given the task of becoming familiar with biographical information about the author, the historical context of the literary text, as well as its aesthetic movement, and rhetorical devices. Each group will have approximately 15 minutes to present on the topic. You may use visuals, images, video clips, and other forms of media to present using Prezi, or GoogleSlides. If you use slides, you may NOT read directly from your notes or the slide, and should only use a maximum of 8–10 words per slide. The skills and techniques I have learned through this course will help me in the future.
